2017 09 18 - day 2 - Seoul.
Woke up to a beautiful sunny day. The buffet breakfast consisted of a huge range of food. Wayne felt like scrambled eggs. They were made to order while he waited!
Breakfast over we decided to have a walk around the outside of the hotel as we had an 11 hour 15 minute sit on a plane coming up!
Everything is so immaculate. Trees tied together with bamboo or strategically placed ropes to ensure they grow straight. Manicured grass and gardens. Not a blade of grass out of place. No sign of any street rubbish anywhere.
We had to be ready for the shuttle bus pick up at 12.00 pm. We were collected and conveyed the short distance to the airport.
Time to go through immigration and security. First check was a scan of our passports. Second check was security. Of course we picked the slowest line. There was a guy in front who was in full army uniform who had to virtually undress! Don went through ok. Wayne's turn.He was a bit concerned about his medication as some of it is liquid. That wasn't the problem. It was his toiletries bag! Toothpaste and shaving cream! After a thorough check it was cleared. Then the two chains around his neck needed to be shown.
Third and final check was passport control. Passport was scanned again! All ok so off to our departure lounge as we had about 90 minutes to wait. We were dreading this flight! 11 hours 15 minutes! Due to congestion on our route we were held up for 30 minutes before our flight took off.
Two similar meals on this flight as on the first flight. The guy sitting in front of Wayne was like a jack-in-the-box! Seat up, seat back, seat up! Very annoying while trying to watch a movie! He must have changed the seat position a thousand times!
Coming in to land at Amsterdam we were amazed at the hundreds of wind turbines along the shoreline. Touchdown! We had been sitting for 11 hours 45 minutes so we were glad to get off the plane.
Two Immigration Officers on duty for a large plane load so that took nearly half an hour to get processed. Off to collect our luggage. No one at Customs so straight through.
We found the taxi rank so off to the hotel. It was a 30 minute ride. Hotel was out of Amsterdam in a town called Haarlem. Checked in and saw the restaurant was open till late. We wanted some real food! Walking from our room to the restaurant the hotel was massive. It even had its own 10 pin bowling alley! We both ordered a thick juicy steak with a local beer, a Heineken!
Another well-earned sleep on our first night in Europe!
