Positive Re-enforcement
We do not spoon-feed our wild cheetahs meant for release. Bella is a non-releasable cheetah because she was kept as a pet for a long time. Because of this. she is too familiar with people and would approach a farmer, causing a conflict. Because she joins for Center Feeding and is around the public, she needs to remain calm. Spoon-feeding helps as re-enforcement for good behaviors, and if she is shown the other end of the spoon, she will walk away. This helps if a staff member needs to go inside the enclosure with her in it because she will not approach them if shown the other end of the spoon.
