Mary Hi Frank, We researched on Google maps & chose Avis because of the drop off outside the terminal. We also chose the previous night's hotel based on ease of driving to the terminal. Car keys are dropped into a box inside the ferry terminal. It was very easy. We took the train down to Kaikoura so taking the car on the ferry wasn't an option for us.

Frank If possible, please share your observations regarding the logistics of on boarding the ferry. I am trying to determine the easiest method. That is car or no car. With a car , one must line up early. Without a car, the rental must be dropped of ( who knows where) get to the ferry ( with luggage) board 45 minutes early. Etc. etc. which option is best in your opinion please?
