When using a toaster it's probably a good idea to keep an eye on the thing while operating...... now I know the fire alarm is working quit well :-) last Tuesday we met our first host family and they are really great! We are helping them out with paintwork, gardening and some other chores. They live on a fantastic hill just outside of St Johnsburry VT. They have arranged some mountain bikes for us so we have some transportation. Did I mention hill? Well I guess I did…. I am peddling my ass off here. Down to St Johnsburry is no problem at all but getting up that hill is an entirely different thing…. Back home everything is flat so I need some time getting used to this. So here in St Johnsburry they have dog chapel. There's an artist who took the initiative to found and open the chapel. People can play with their dogs, follow all sorts of courses or just meet up with other dog owners. The chapel is a place where they can remember their dogs and the walls are covered notes from owners to their dogs. I've never seen a place like this so for all your dog lovers out there…… I think you would enjoy it.
First things first. Our host are Jim & Reinette who have three adult children and a dog. One of them is home for the summer so we have the pleasure of meeting Jonah to. Jim works as a coach at the St Johnsburry Acadamy which has an excellent golf programme. Right up my dad's alley:-) He is golfing as we speak so I can use this quit time to write our blog. Reinette is working as a nurse at a doctor's office so we are all set in case of an emergency.
Saturday we went on our first road trip, wiiiiiieeeeeee:-) Always loooooove to go roadtrippin'. We went to Stowe where there was a beer fest, great town. Actually it's a ski resort. Their best kept secret however is that the von Trapp family lives in Stowe. Yes, I'm talking about THE von Trapp family….. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens……. The movie is based on this family. It's not a biography because there were some changes made but it's mainly based on their life.
We also took time out to visit the capital of Vermont….. Montpelier. Not too big and not too small. Just a nice cosy town which is a hoot to visit. We soon learned that the people of Vermont love their beer. Almost every town has its own brewery. Something we can appreciate:-) Ice cream lovers pay attention, when in Vermont you can visit the one and only Ben & Jerry's! Find out how it all happened and where it's still happening. Every flavour available can be tasted. It's heaven on earth.
Along the way we stopped at a few yard sales. Always fun to do. Had some dinner at Goodfella's which tasted as good as the name sounds. Next weekend labour day weekend. That's the beginning of the season so all the festivals start. A lot of live music, county fairs, good food and company. Till next time.
