07 October 2017 - day 21 - Driving to Pontorson.
Today we are driving to Pontorson, which is located 9 kilometres from Mont Saint Michel. One site that has been on our 'wish list' since our last trip three years ago. We wanted to do it then but it was in the wrong direction.
We stayed at Camping Haliotis. What a magnificently set up park. All pitches have a 1.5 metre hedge around them on three sides. There are cabins and igloo styled tents. Bikes for hire, bar, café, shop, swimming pool and water park for the kids as well as a sauna. More things for the kids include a trampoline, bouncing castle, tennis court and animal farm.
Facilities, well, mixed toilets, all in together! At least the urinals are behind a couple of swinging doors which are open most of the time (that is the doors, not the urinals)! The showers, again, all in together!
We walked in to the village to replenish supplies. Guess what? It was an Aldi which is called 'Lido' in France.
Stumbled upon a Church built in 1050! It was Notre Dame de la Paix de Pontorson. It was very dark inside but you could just feel the age of the building. Such an historic Church just in a back street in the village!
We decided that we were going to eat in a restaurant tonight. The restaurant we chose had an old dragon of a waitress! Most probably the owner's wife. We had trouble explaining we wanted our steaks cooked medium to well. Knowing what some French chefs are like, you eat it how they like to cook it. There is no discussion! It came out, it was rare! We had been looking forward to it so ate it under sufferance!
Walking back to the park, it started raining. We had a long walk so were very wet by the time we got back.
