2017 09 16 - day before leaving Brisbane.
Today is the day before we fly. Some last minute shopping for clothes and some footwear to wear to the shower blocks. As well, Wayne needed to get his prescriptions filled for packing.
Shopping done so off to the Chemist Warehouse. Wayne thought by getting my prescriptions filled the day before they would be fresh for the trip. The fun is about to begin! When he went to the counter, one lot of insulin looks ok n he right sized box and labelled with what looks familiar. The second lot of insulin is in bottles to be drawn out into needles. This he is not familiar with and doesn't have those needles. PANIC!
The doctor has to write a letter detailing all the medication Wayne will be taking with him. Most importantly the letter does not mention hyperaemic needles! Therefore, he cannot take them with him!
He explained to the chemist his issue. She said she can only supply what the doctor has written. Wayne's doctor had misinterpreted his medication list from the hospital! Her solution, go to the local Medical Centre across the road. It was closed! Her next suggestion was to go to the Emergency Department at Prince Charles Hospital and see a doctor and get a new prescription. Oh and he needed to be back by 7.00 pm when the store closed!
So off to PCH! When we got there a few people were standing outside and Wayne thought this doesn't look good. He went inside, explained his dilemma to the Receptionist who called a nurse to attend to him immediately. Next thing he was being taken into the ED to see a doctor. Explained his story again and the doctor said she could help him! Phew!
Ten minutes later Wayne left with the correct prescription and it was back to the chemist. New insulin pens supplied so time for home.
At this stage neither of us had really started to pack and there was still a lot to do! About 9.00 pm Wayne decided to pack his two types of insulin into their cold pack containers. Second disaster! The insulin that looked ok was also incorrect. They were refills for a reusable pen which he did not have! PANIC! There is nothing he can do! He did have some of this type of insulin which will get him through for a few weeks. Wayne will have to go to a doctor either in Amsterdam or Paris and see if he can get a prescription.
Time to continue packing. That was competed at 2.00 am! Alarm was going off at 3.45 am and we were being collected at 4.45 am!
