It was a nice slowish start to the morning, partly thanks to the mind games my stomach seems to be playing with me...
I spent about half an hour wondering the streets of Trinidad trying to following various directions to find the street where shared taxis leave the city bound for San Ignacio de Moxos. Eventually, I caught one, along with a baby, who seemed obsessed with my white legs.
The most interesting part of the journey was crossing the Rio Mamore. There is no bridge, so the shared taxis have to stop and wait for the public rafts to take them across. Unfortunately my stomach disagreed with breakfast's inclusion of a strawberry yoghurt and so I had to relieve myself under a stilt house. Furthermore, that meant I missed the raft the taxi I caught was being carried on, but luckily I just managed to get onto the next raft, for the couple minute crossing of the river.
The scenery is pretty flat and dull, the area has been cultivated by the native Moxeno people for centuries and so what jungle there is, exists only in patches. We arrived in San Ignacio very quickly, maybe only two or so hours after we left. I hopped onto a moto-taxi and headed into the town centre, but not before making use of Bolivia's nicest bus station toilets.
I then trapsed around San Ignacio trying to find a hostel with beds. After 4 attempts, I finally found one not full, and since my arrival an Italian has arrived, halving the price of my room. I've spent the day just making the most of the calm. The town is clearly preparing for a big party, but at the same time it you definitely feel the quiet, laidback vibe this town must exude most of the year.
Let's see how this goes down.
Vamos!
