The real work on the campsite starts and I had nice trip to Interlaken and the Thunersee.
Sunday was the first real workingday and in TFTD, Anna (SE) and I presented the staffboard for the summer of 2017. Everybody liked it! A little while later we had a small training about checking in at the campsite (in the pouring rain) and we handcleaned the OTB (Old Toilet Block), followed by our first weekly meeting with a lot of information. And I asked for some days of for when Daan is coming here. After lunch we did a propertywalk, so we know where one campsite ends and where the other starts. We also got some information about the check outs and we cleaned the Uncle Sam's Toiletblock. And then it was time again for the weekly Sunday BBQ. Tasty and very funny!
After TFTD on Monday we got some more training about recycling and we emptied the Chalet Recycle Centre and the Recycle Centre on the Campsite. We did some small random tasks and after lunch we got a firefight training. Very interesting and useful to use the fire extinguisher. Later, on campsite, we got training about the pressure washer, but everybody calls it the powerwasher. A bit strange in the beginning, but funny later on. I was off in the evening and I crocheted a bit and played the boardgame Catan. We had a good time!
The morning of Tuesday was very relaxing. We cleaned the OTB with the powerwasher and I dried the walls with the squeeze. We also got some information about the rentals checked a cooking set and put up some tents. In the afternoon we started with cleaning of the foodwastebuckets and I helped some guests with wood from the Wood Compound. Nice task! We also got more information about how to use the radio's, but actually I already knew how to communicate with them. And we got information about the evacuation procedure, and luckily we don't have any drills for that, because there are a lot of possible situations and we get instructions when it's necessary. We also cleaned the fridge and drying room at Uncle Sam's. And then we had dinner. I was hungry! After dinner I was relaxing a bit, when Andrew (GH) came to me, because it was our turn to clean the staff bathrooms. I thought it was Thursday :(. So at 10 PM we were cleaning the showers and toilets.
Wednesday was another day off. I didn't felt like I needed it, but a day relaxing every now and then isn't bad. I bought a KISC 2017 scarf and postcards in the shop and wrote then to Daan and home. And I crocheted a bit. After lunch I started on a puzzle of a 1000 pieces, but apparently that was a bit to enthusiastic, because at dinnertime I wasn't finished and gave it up. After dinner I watched a movie, finished the Portuguese flag and read a bit in a book.
Thursday was a new day on campsite. We started with sorting rubbish on the Rovergelände (the campsite near the chalet) and loaded everything on Leena. Don't worry, she's a big tractor ;p. We went to the Recycle Centre in the village, where we got a small tour from Lisa. When we got back we powerwashed the OTB, even though the electricity didn't really wanted to work. In the afternoon we cleaned one of the shelters and the fridge and drying room. I also did a checkout talk at campsite 23. I felt a bit nervous, but that didn't hold me back this time and I'm happy about that. In the evening I rested a bit and drawed my pattern to sew the Moroccan flag. And I went to Gemmi's after that. A very nice time with good conversations!
Friday I felt a bit sad, but actually the day went fine. We cleaned more and we got some training about working in the campsite office and the programs we use. In the afternoon all the Campsite STS were off and Nathan, Kristy and I went to the village to find a pooltable, but we didn't succeed :(. So we walked back and watched a tv series and relaxed more.
In the morning of Saturday we did the daily cleaning and I was excited and used the powerwasher on the whole OTB. Nice! We also did the recycling on the Rovergelände and got training about the Wood Compound. Very useful! After lunch we got training about the pioneering poles and sorted them all out. And we got some vehiculetraining. Naomi teached me how to drive Leena. I liked it, but it was also took some time to get used to after a long time of not driving at all. And I had never driven a tractor before, but I succeeded! And when we were walking back, apparently the Kander had turned green. Very strange! Later we heard it was because they wanted to see where the water from a cave was flowing. In the evening it was Staff Night Out again and we did karaoke in the Gemmibar. I enjoyed it and we had a really good time!
On Sunday Siobhan had a very interesting TFTD about making a difference. A little while later we started the daily cleaning, but soon I had to leave Kristy and Felipe at Uncle Sam's, because I was roted at the Recycle Centre this morning. My first task in my own. Whoop whoop! It went really well, since there were only two groups who showed up to recycle, so I also tidied up a bit. We also had our weekly meeting and I have three days in a row off on 3, 4 and 5 August, so now I know when Daan can come to visit me. Super happy! In the afternoon we had a lot of random tasks, like cleaning Uncle Sam's shelter, giving out wood at the Wood Compound and the thing I enjoyed the most: my first check in for a Swedish group. I was a bit nervous, but according to Josh I did it very well. For Dinner on Sunday we had a BBQ again and I enjoyed some dancing with Teresa, Wellem, Nathaniel and Sixtine. We had a lot of fun!
The next Monday was very relaxed. I drove Leena to the Chalet Recycle Centre to pick the Recycle stuff up and sort it out back at the Recycle Centre. In the afternoon I was in the office and I got training about that from Lisa. It was very quiet today, but I helped some guests and cleaned a bit. I also designed a sign to promote the ice cream sales. The evening was relaxing and I called with Daan. So nice.
Yippee! This morning I had a sleep in and skipped TFTD. When I went to work I helped cleaning the Kanderlodge showers and some recycling from the Rovergelände. Lunchtime came very soon and after the delicious falafel, I replaced my brake pads at the backwheel and packed some stuff for my bicycletrip to Interlaken tomorrow. After that Else, Lisa and I cleaned the fridge and drying room at Uncle Sam's, when soon we had a question on the radio to do a check in. And I was allowed to do it! So excited! It went very well. It was an Australian from Perth (very close to Tessa in Margaret River), who was here to backpack. So funny! Later we cleaned some drains and we had a very nice coffeebreak. After that we did some more recycling and after dinner I went back, because I was roted on the Recycle Centre today. It was oké, but apparently some people really don't pay enough attention. Eggshell isn't plastic...ame very soon and after the delicious falafel, I replaced my brake pads at the backwheel and packed some stuff for my bicycletrip to Interlaken tomorrow. The morning of Wednesday started interesting, because when we arrived at the OTB with the powerwasher, we found out that the urinoirs and sinks were blocked. We tried a lot of stuff to solve it and happily after some waterfalls we were able to solve the problem in the sinks, but not in the urinoirs. So we locked everything and the plumber would come in the afternoon and we had still a bit time left to clean the Uncle Sam's Toiletblock before lunch. And I was off in the afternoon! Whoop whoop! I packed the last stuff and hitted the road down the valley. Very nice. The route along the Thunersee was also very beautiful. The last bit after Interlaken was tough, because I was tired, it was hot and it went uphill. And almost at the same time I arrived at Matthias' place in Ringenberg. He had a sort of appartement under his house, with a bathroom, kitchen, living room, bedroom and a spare room. So much all for myself! After a very appreciated shower I read a bit in my book and had a good time with good conversations during dinner. After that I went to bed, without the sounds of other people. I appreciated that very much.
The next morning I woke up, very well rested and after a relaxed breakfast I left again. I cycled on the north side of the Thunersee, which is very beautiful with the clear and blue water. Very nice! Today was also very warm and the more I went back in the valley, the more breaks I needed. When I took a nap underneath a tree I had an unwelcome confrontation with a giant caterpillar with a big sting. It scared me a lot, but luckily I had nothing. I cycled everything back, even the very steep hill in front of Kandersteg, what did me feel proud, because the previous time it felt horrible. In the evening I rested and finished my flag of Morocco and my book. Whoop whoop!
