SHACKLETON BANK
A short distance down the road is Shackleton proudly displaying Australia's smallest bank at 3 x 4 metres and closed in 1987!! We borrowed the keys from the local store for a look inside. Surprisingly it had also been a childmind centre.
We had bee intending to travel to Norseman via Hyden and the unsealed back roads but unfortunately these roads were closed due to rain, so we headed for the Great Western Highway. We were stuck behind a 3 trailer Road Train carrying ore. It could only manage 60 kms /hr up the modest hills, no wonder ,after talking to the driver on the radio, his gross weight was 47 tonnes.
